  • 1 bag of the herbal peppermint tea
  • 1 cup of freshly boiled water

What to do

  • Put the tea bag inside the boiled water
  • Allow the teabag to remain in the water for about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • The tea will steep inside the hot water during this period
  • Pull out the tea bag when the time expires and squeeze the excess fluid from the teabag inside the tea.
  • Allow the tea to cool a little and drink.

Ginger can help

Ginger can help to calm the tummy and put an end to consistent gas.  It’s rich in very helpful chemicals, like shaols and gingerols.  The two can help to relax your intestine and put an end to inflammation problems.  Ginger root acts as carminative, which means it helps prevent the formation of gas.


What you need

  • Lemon and honey
  • 1 cup of boiling water to make tea
  • A grater
  • 1 fresh gingerroot.

What to do

  • Pick the fresh and nice looking gingerroot and clean it under warm water.
  • Slice it into about 6 pieces and place all of the slices inside a mug.
  • You can then add some lemon or honey as much as you want.
  • Pour hot water on the slices inside the mug.
  • Do not allow the mixture to boil. You can prevent this by turning off the heat under the kettle just before boiling can start.
  • Cover the mixture properly and leave it covered for some 10 minutes
  • Pour a cup of the mixture and drink
  • You can drink it before you meal or after the meal. It will help prevent indigestion.
  • Equally consume the ginger directly before your meal. Also grate the ginger before eating it.
  • You can keep the ginger with you all day and nibble at it once in a while as you go about your daily activities.

Caraway too helps

Caraway is one of the oldest home remedies for gas. It had been used in the Middle East and England for centuries.  It helps put an end to frequent gassing.  It is the best to go for if you feel somewhat bloated but you are not in the proper place to pass gas.


What you need

  • Caraway cracker or caraway seeds

What to do

  • Just put some caraway seed or caraway cracker in your mouth when you are in that uncomfortable situation.
  • Instead of nibbling at it all day long, you can just eat a sizable quantity every morning before leaving home and it will help put the gas in check for the day.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile is a good choice for taking care of your gassing problem. It is a very good alternative to peppermint tea. If you do to fancy peppermint tea or you feel peppermint tea does not work for you, chamomile is the perfect alternative. Chamomile has anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic qualities, which make it the perfect home remedy for gas.

  • 1 cup of fresh boiled water
  • 1 bag of the chamomile tea

What to do

  • Place some clean water on heat source and boil it
  • Place the chamomile tea bag inside a cup and pour the boiled water into it.

  • The tea would have steeped properly by now.
  • Squeeze the tea bag properly to get all possible drops of chamomile tea out of the tea bag.

Pumpkin too can help

Pumpkin can help reduce the amount of gas produced in your intestine and help reduce the frequency of passing gas.  You can eat it along with your meal. You can also eat it before or after the meal.


What you need

  • 1 cup of broiled, steamed or baked pumpkin

What to do

  • Eat the pumpkin along with your meal and this will help to ward off gas.

Activated charcoal

This is also very helpful for controlling passage of gas. Activated charcoal is highly porous. It can absorb the gas in the gastrointestinal system into its pores. Once taken, it travels through the gastrointestinal tract into the intestines where it absorbs all the gases produced by the bacteria in your large intestine as they feed on the undigested foods there. The activated charcoal is available in different forms, like tablet, capsule and powder.

Proper chewing of foods

Home remedies for gas are not just about taking something in form of tea or herbs; it can also be achieved by properly chewing your foods.  Chewing food properly helps to quicken digestion rate, which will prevent possibility of gas production in the intestine.  You can save yourself the trouble of ever looking for any of the home remedies mentioned above by properly chewing food in your mouth before swallowing the food.


Warm lemon water

With a glass of warm lemon water drunk every morning, you can successfully keep the gas and the doctor away.  Lemon is rich in hydrochloric acid, which helps to break down food in your stomach and aids faster digestion. It will therefore ease the gas problem.

  • 3 fresh lemon wedges. You can also use 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

  • This is best done very early in the morning immediately you wake up and before you eat anything.
  • Put some water on source of heat top warm (not boil).
  • Pick the lemon juice and wash it carefully.
  • Cut off 3 slices out of the lemon and squeeze the juice out into the water.
  • Stir the mixture together and drink it.
  • You can use lemon juice in place of fresh lemon; a tablespoon of the juice will do.
  • You can continue adding the lemon juice until the water becomes cloudy.

Modify diet

One of the most helpful home remedies for gas that you must never forget involves diet modification.  Certain foods can lead to increased production of gas in the gastrointestinal system. Examples of such unhelpful foods are:

  • Fatty fried foods
  • Sugary sweets
  • Caffeine laden beverages
  • Broccoli

  • Milk

  • Cinnamon powder

  • Place the milk on medium heat to warm

  • Stir properly until they form homogenous solution
  • Add some honey to improve on taste and drink the solution.
  • Instead of the above, you can warm some water and add the cinnamon powder inside the boiling water.
  • Allow the cinnamon powder to steep inside the boiling water
  • Turn off the heat and pour yourself a glass cup of the solution.
  • You can drink it any time of the day.

Apple cider vinegar

It is useful in treating indigestion, which is one of the main causes of gas. it gives the desired instant relief and help soothe the stomach very fast.  Regular vinegar can be used in place of apple cider vinegar.

What you need

  • Water
  • Apple cider vinegar or ordinary vinegar

What to do

  • Place the water on medium heat to warm
  • Add the apple cider vinegar
  • Turn off the heat and allow the water to cool until it attains room temperature.
  • Pour yourself a glassful and drink.


Buttermilk can work together with black salt and carom seeds to put an end to excessive gas.  It has proved to be one of the best ayurvedic remedies around, which makes it one of the best home remedies for gas.


What you need

  • 1 teaspoon of Carom seeds
  • Black salt
  • 1 cup of Buttermilk
  • Drink the solution

What to do

  • Pour the buttermilk in a container
  • Add the carom seeds and black salt into the buttermilk
  • Celery seed can equally be used in place of sarom seeds
  • Mix together and drink.


This is yet another highly effective home remedy for gas.  It has both anti-flatulent and anti-spasmodic properties and it is the best for controlling gas.

What to do

  • Place the water on Low heat and allow it to warm up.
  • Add a pinch of asafetida to the warm water.
  • Mix them together and drink
  • Repeat this 2 or 3 times in a day.
  • Alternatively, you can add just little water to the asafetida and make a paste.
  • Apply the formed paste on your stomach
  • Leave it to dry for some minutes.
  • This will help dissipate the gas.
  • Better still, you can put the asafetida in ripe banana and eat
  • Repeat this 2 times in a day for more effectiveness.


It is undoubtedly one of the best for controlling gas


What to do

  • Place the water on medium heat to boil
  • Add fennel seeds to the boiling water
  • Reduce the heat to Low and allow the seeds to simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Strain the solution formed and drink
  • In place of the above, you can put some of the fresh fennel leaves in your mouth and chew it. take note that the taste is not pleasant.
  • You can also add mint leaves, cardamom and fennel together and mix.
  • Pour the mixture inside boiling water and make a concoction from it.
  • Drink some of the concoction.
